Starting her career in 1966 as a child artist to facing passive racism and finally overcoming all the odds and conquering the industry with her mystic persona, Rekha has seen it all. Once considered to be an outspoken woman, Rekha today prefers to be reclusive. The diva has worked in over 180 films in a career span of over 40 years. Inspiration to many, Rekha won the National Film Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of a classical courtesan in Umrao Jaan (1981). In 2010, she was honoured with the Padma Shri by the Government of India.
