Vidya Balan and Rituparna Sengupta attend the screening of Begum Jaan in Mumbai

Vidya Balan & Co. can heave a sigh of relief. Because after months of promotions, Srijit Mukherji’s Begum Jaan will finally hit the theatres tomorrow. But before that, Vidya Balan, along with Mahesh Bhatt, Mukesh Bhatt, Gauahar Khan, Pallavi Sharda, and the other girls attend the screening of the movie in Mumbai.

But there was a special guest who flew down from Kolkata to watch the movie’s screening and that was none other than the original Begum Jaan. Yes, Rituparna Sengupta, who essayed the role of Begum Jaan in Srijit Mukherji’s Rajkahini, attended the screening of the movie. Vidya Balan and Rituparna Sengupta looked like a vision in white as they both posed for the paparazzi.

As their last leg of promotions, the cast of Begum Jaan met the cast of Rajkahini in Kolkata and it was a lovely site to watch Vidya Balan interact with Rituparna Sengupta, and share their thoughts on Begum Jaan. In an interview to a leading daily, Vidya Balan was quoted as saying, “I am very happy that I am doing the adaptation of Rajkahini. I am very happy to be part of Srijit’s first Hindi film. You have given so much love to Rajkahini. Of course, it is a very good film. I want you all to love Begum Jaan as well.”    

In the movie, Vidya Balan will be seen playing the role of a brothel’s madam, set in the backdrop of late Indian Independence period of 1947. The cast of Begum Jaan consists of Vidya Balan, Gauahar Khan, Ila Arun, Pallavi Sharda, and Naseeruddin Shah, among others. But for all those who don’t know, Begum Jaan is the Hindi adaptation of National Award-winning filmmaker Srijit Mukherji’s Bengali’s film, Rajkahini.
