Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's father Krishnaraj Rai passed away on Saturday evening, after fighting prolonged cancer. The funeral took place around 8.30 pm at Vile Parle Seva Sansthan Shamshan Bhoomi.

Many Bollywood celebrities came to pay their last respects to Aishwarya's father. Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Ashutosh Gowariker, Kunal Kapoor with his wife Naina Bachchan, Mickey Contractor, Sikandar Kher and Goldie Behl were present at the funeral. Amitabh's close friend Anil Ambani and younger brother Ajitabh Bachchan reached to pray for the soul.

Big B also posted a long message on his official blog. There he wrote, “That call you wait anxiously knowing that it will come, and come it does to end all other calls .. glimpses of reactions in the mind, of the lost one, of those that shall reflect on the lost one .. and suddenly then in the midst of sorrow and grief among the grieved and grieving ..”

“That walk to the ultimate destination and the reality… Embracing the tragedy, the discussions on its transport, its rituals, its formalities… The custom, the tradition, the visitors with the sadness and the embrace of consolation, the last rites, the carriage, the placement, the cremation… What to say what to put out where to put to… All laden with grief and departure,” he added.

A source had earlier informed us, "He has been in the hospital for nearly two weeks. Aishwarya is taking care of him despite her being alone as Abhishek was in New York for work. He just got back. Recently at Aaradhya's sports day, Aishwarya was seen cheering for the kids and her own daughter too. But simultaneously she was also keeping a tab on her dad's health."

We give our deepest condolences to Aishwarya and the Rai family.
