Swara Bhaskar on Nepotism: Karan Johar is an industry elite but has been a wonderful surprise
In an interview, Swara Bhaskar says her experience of Bollywood is not nepotistic at all
After Kangana Ranaut’s remark ‘Flag bearer of Nepotism’ to Karan Johar on a chat show, Nepotism seems to have become Bollywood’s favorite word or say, favorite swear word. Right after Kangana’s statement, all hell broke loose and Bollywood seems to be deconstructing the word in its own way.
While some actors agree to the prevalence of nepotism in the film fraternity, some disagree. The latest actor to join the bandwagon is Swara Bhaskar who, vehemently, denies nepotism. In an interview to a leading daily, Swara shared, “Bollywood as an industry is based on relationships, it has always been star-driven and it has an element of feudalism. So, it would be difficult for an outsider but my experience of Bollywood is not nepotistic at all,” adding, “I think people, who have been most warm and nice are people like Karan Johar, Sonam Kapoor and even Aditya Chopra. He has always been very responsive and helpful.”
By way of dismissing Kangana’s nepotism statement, Swara said, “Since the whole nepotism debate is going on, I just want to say that Karan has been a revelation to me. He is an industry elite but he has been a wonderful surprise. He launched our film’s poster despite me not knowing him personally.” She continued, “His tweet added a certain credibility and gave visibility to our film. He is a very busy man but he replied to all my messages. When he tweeted our poster, people thought that I had paid him. All I want to say is, I can’t afford to pay him.”
Well, we hope that Swara’s Tanu Weds Manu co-star Kangana Ranaut is reading this!
