Amitabh Bachchan today unveiled classical music brothers Amaan and Ayaan Ali Khan’s latest album, The Journey: Rabab to Sarod.
The sons of esteemed musician, Ustaad Amjad Ali Khan, spoke about their upcoming album in an interview earlier this month, stating that this will be the first ever album to feature both the Rabab and the Sarod which are both musical instruments. They spoke of how their forefathers were involved in the modification of the Rabab into the Sarod. Their forefathers, who belonged to Afghanistan, settled down in Madhya Pradesh and used to play the Rabab about 300 years ago. Ghulam Bandegi Khan Bangash and his son, Ghulam Ali Khan, modified and invented the Sarod from the Rabab.
Ayaan who plays the Sarod, along with his brother Amaan has created an album that celebrates the connection between the two instruments and indeed, the past and present members of his illustrious family.
Mr Bachchan who is a fan of their music, graciously unveiled their new album at a grand launch event today. He proudly posted a picture from the unveiling on his twitter page and captioned it “A treat of musical genius and the release of the record ‘Journey’… such ecstasy and joy in the company of such musical giants”.
