Ranveer Singh is all set to recreate the Indian cricket history on screen with Kabir Khan’s film titled ’83. The Befikre actor is all set to play cricketer Kapil Dev, a film that captures India’s iconic win over the mighty West Indies at the cricket World Cup. Today, the announcement has been finally made.
It was one of a kind of event wherein all the cricketers who were a part of the 1983 World Cup were present to announce the film with Ranveer and Kabir Khan. The winning team comprised of ace-cricketers like Kapil Dev, Mohinder Amarnath, Sunil Gavaskar, Kirti Azad, Yashpal Sharma, Krishnamachari Srikkanth, Roger Binny, Balwinder Singh Sandhu, Sandeep Patil, Syed Kirmani, Madan Lal, Ravi Shastri, Dilip Vengsarkar, Sunil Valson and their manager PR Man Singh. Except of Gavaskar and Shastri, everyone was present at the event.
When Ranveer was asked about his reaction on being offered the role of Kapil Dev, he stated, "I was born at the time when cricket was big time. When Kabir Sahab had come to me and said that there will be a film on 83, I was like finally. And when he was narrating it to me, I was like woooh. It is not a story just about cricket but a human story."
He said to Kapil, "How am I going to do this? I am honoured that I will be a part of the biggest story." And added, "Goosebumps and goosebumps in the second part of the film, right Kabir sir?"
Only Ranveer has been finalised for the role and Dev said that it will not be an easy task to make the 1983 squad. He said, "1983 ki team handle karna wasn't easy, koshish karlo mushkil se milenge aise characters poori India mein."
Kapil also said, "I might have done mistakes. Actually, mein thoda agricultural ground se tha so woh agriculture aa jata tha. Jab shuru kiya tha English mein khelte the and I didn't know how to speak. But we did enjoy. There are many stories that we can't tell."
Ranveer and Kapil Dev also raised a toast at the event.
