Pakistan vs South Africa, ICC Cricket World Cup: Toss update
Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat first at Lord's Cricket Ground.
With three losses, one win and one loss from five games, Pakistan are clutching at straws as they meet South Africa, who are more or less out of the World Cup with just win in the ICC Cricket World Cup.
Pakistan have won the toss and opted to bat first on a dry wicket at Lord's, London.
Pitch report: There's some grass on the wicket but it's been well rolled. Batting first would be a good option as the surface is dry beneath. It is less greener than it looked yesterday. It's gotten a trim but not a good one at that. It's that teenager's shave. Some bald patches surrounded by a smattering of grass.
What the captains said:
Faf du Plessis: There's pressure every game you play, especially in the World Cup; I don't think it's easy to get away from it. Two teams will try to play their best cricket today, hopefully it'll be exciting. We have got a little better every game. In the previous game we had an opportunity to launch in the last 10 overs, but we fell 10-15 runs short. But as a team we have gotten better with evey game. It's the same team, gives us a good balance. With Lungi (Ngidi) back, hopefully he gets few wickets upfront. I was going to bowl first anyways, so it's a good toss to lose.
Sarfaraz Ahmed: We are going to bat first today. It looks a good wicket, we'll put runs on the board and try to defend it. We are focussing on this match, hopefully we do well. It's an important game for us as there are three matches remaning after this. If we focus on one game at a time, hopefully we'll do well. Haris Sohail and Shaheen Afridi are back in the team, Shoaib Malik and Hasan Ali miss out today.
