Pakistan officially out of the World Cup 2019 as New Zealand qualify; Twitter reacts
After needing to win the game by 308 runs, Pakistan, who made 316 runs batting first, had to dismiss Bangladesh for just 7 runs to qualify for the semis.
Pakistan were officially knocked out of the World Cup 2019 semis after Bangladesh crossed the seven-run mark while chasing 316 runs that Pakistan posted. In the ongoing game between Bangladesh and Pakistan, the latter needed to win by a margin of more than 308 runs if they wanted to qualify. They could end up making 316, which meant that they had to dismiss Bangladesh for less than seven runs. Of course, that was not the case!
The Pakistanis started their World Cup campaign on a dismal note as they went down to West Indies afer scoring just 105 runs. The massive defeat came back to haunt them in the business end, as they were tied with New Zealand on points, but had an inferior Net Run Rate. However, after a bad start to the edition, in which they also lost to India, Pakistan got some momentum, winning three games on the trot.
They are looking good to win against Bangladesh as well.
While Pakistani fans blamed the ICC for the "slow" pitch that was used at Lord's for this game, mentioning that the side could have made 500+ runs if another pitch was used, to Indians having a go at their arch-rivals, Twitter was full of of mixed emotions after Pakistan were knocked out.
