Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Rani Mukerji grabbed all the eyeballs last night when they partied together at Manish Malhotra's house as he hosted a birthday bash for Sridevi. And we are absolutely happy to see the gorgeous divas let bygones be bygones and come together under one roof.
For the uninitiated, Rani and Aishwarya have shared cold vibes for the longest after the former replaced the latter in Shah Rukh Khan starrer Chalte Chalte in 2003. Their equation worsened when Aishwarya tied the knot with Abhishek, who was once rumoured to be dating Rani. But what worked as the last straw in Rani and Abhishek's friendship was the fact that he didn't invite the actress at his wedding.
In an old interview, when Rani Mukerji was asked about what went wrong with Abhishek Bachchan, she had said, "Only Abhishek can throw light on that. The truth is that if a person chooses not to invite you to their wedding, you realise where you stand with the person. You may be deluded and think you are friends but maybe the friendship was only restricted to being co-stars on the sets."
She had further added, "It doesn't matter. It became very clear and evident that we were only co-actors and not friends. Moreover inviting someone to a wedding is a personal choice. Tomorrow when I decide to get married, I will choose the handful of people I want to invite. A lot has been blown out of proportion. Poor guy has been married for many years, we should all move on. I will always have fond memories of working with him."
Rani's answer clearly hinted at the fact that something had gravely gone wrong. When she was probed further as to why both Rani and Abhishek looked past each other at social events and didn't acknowledge each other, the actress had stated, "Do we? Maybe the lighting in the party was bad. I’ve no idea."
Rani had also opened up on her equation with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who was once her close friend. She said, "You’ll have to ask her that. We are always civil to each other. If I see her, I’ll definitely wish her. She's a fabulous actor from my generation."
