Flashback Friday: Jeetendra - I’d rather not talk about the Hema Malini chapter in my life; I might have created the impression that I was available
Jeetendra gets candid about Hema Malini and being a ladies man in this throwback interview.
While everyone remembers the epic romance between Dharmendra and Hema Malini, there was also news that Hema was almost going to get married to another legendary actor, Jeetendra. Ultimately, he married Shobha Kapoor in 1974.
In an interview with a leading entertainment magazine, when they asked Jeetendra if he actually did propose to Hema, the actor said, "I’d rather not talk about that chapter in my life. Her kids have grown up and so have mine. To talk about this now would be very awkward and embarrassing."
When quizzed about being a ladies man, he revealed, "I don’t know what that means. But I’ll tell you one thing. All unmarried girls want to hook an eligible bachelor. Every girl wants to settle down with a good man. Now it’s up to the man to fob off unwanted attention and let the girls know that he isn’t available. I erred on that count. I might have created the impression that I was available. But in actual fact, Shobha was with me right since Sehra."
He spoke fondly about his co-stars Rajshree and Rekha who were fond of the actor. He said, "I must tell you about my first heroine Rajshree. She was a very strong influence on me. She made me lose my inhibitions, and also my fear of her father Shantaramji. She would drop in at the little house that I stayed in, she’d take me out to movies. Rekha is another dear friend. We don’t meet for ages. But when we do meet, it’s just like the good old times."
He also spoke on how he felt about his career. He said, "I’m not satisfied. I see that look in my daughter Ekta’s eyes. She wants me to do something. I’m planning a film with myself. I want to make Ekta proud of me."
