New Zealand cricketer Martin Guptill reveals that the team partied to overcome the Final loss against England
England cricket team claimed the title of the 2019 World Cup tournament on the basis of scoring more boundaries as both, the match and the super over resulted in a tie against the Black Caps.
Even though New Zealand was defeated by the hosts in an unfortunate match that resulted in a tie in the super over, the team managed to handle the defeat graciously. The fans applauded the team and poured in their support and respect for the players for showcasing brilliant cricket throughout the tournament.
Opener, Martin Guptill revealed that the team partied to overcome the defeat in the Final at Lord’s and also realised that it was one of the greatest games in the history of cricket. "We actually had quite a good party. I mean, obviously it was quite a sombre mood for a while but then we realised we were part of one of the greatest games in cricket history, so we got over it fairly quickly. We had a good time together, because we're not going to be together as a group like that for a while yet," Guptill said in his conversation with ESPNCricinfo.
The World Cup Final that was turned into a super over required the Black Caps to score 16 runs of 6 balls to defeat England. However, the team could only manage 15 runs and the super over was tied, which resulted in England’s victory in the game as they smashed more boundaries than New Zealand in the match. Guptill also mentioned about the over throw that resulted in 6 runs and said, “I guess it was the throw that I threw in from the boundary and hit the back of Stokes' bat, and trickled off for four. You know when that sort of thing happens, from a throw from the boundary, it tends not to go your way.”
