Dangal Music Review: Pritam & Amitabh Bhattacharya give the album a rustic touch and the melodies are hard-hitting!
Aamir Khan's Dangal has been making the right noise and fans are eagerly waiting for the film to hit the screens on December 23. The film is a story of a Haryanvi wrestler, Mahavir Phogat and his daughters Geeta and Babita. As the film has a raw touch to it, the music was bound to have that rustic feel. The jukebox of the film is out and here's our review:
Haanikaarak Bapu
The album opens with Sarwar Khan & Sartaz Khan Barna's song, Haanikaarak Bapu. The two children from Rajasthan’s Manganiyar community will make the song relatable as the lyrics reflects the kids feelings who has a strict father - Baapu sehat ke liye, Tu toh hanikarak hai, Hum pe thodi daya toh karo, Hum nanhe baalak hai.
The instruments like Sarangi, Harmonium and Dholki create that rural traditional environment, but drums and guitar keep the arrangement lively. Sarwar Khan & Sartaz Khan Barna turned out to be the right picks, without any doubt!
Dhaakad
The song's opening with kamaicha will take you to the land of deserts - Rajasthan. But, Raftaar adds a punch to the song with his Haryanvi rap. The song gets into an urban beat which gives it that cool vibe. Dhaakad is a type of a song you would want to sing when you're in a house party where all of your friends can sing along with you at the top of their voice.
Gilehriyaan
Then you have Gilehriyaan by Jonita Gandhi and it takes you away from the Haryanvi setting of the film and also breaks the aggression down into a soulful ballad. The lyrics are soft and breezy - Main jaanu na, jaanu na, jaanu na, jaanu na, Kyun phudak phudak ke, Dhadkano ki chal rahi gilehriyaan! Calm guitar tunes and bass strings will make you listen to the song on a loop.
Dangal
Here comes the title track! Sung by Daler Mehndi, this song pretty much sums up the movie. With staccato guitar riffs and dhol in place, the song can also be said as a heroic anthem. The song will inculcate the feeling in you of achieving your dreams and passions you want to pursue. Hands Down!
Naina
Arijit Singh never fails to live up to our expectation when it's about singing sad and soulful songs and Naina is one such song in the title. The song will evoke all the emotions and it might also make your teary-eyed. The lyrics are poetic and will take to the stage of tranquility and as William Wordsworth puts it - “Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings; it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility.”
Dhaakad - Aamir Khan Version
Aamir Khan might not be a rapper by profession, but does a remarkable job with harmonium and dhol in the background. Him singing the song is indeed a treat! Raftaar, are you listening?
Idiot Banna
Who doesn't know of Nooran sisters? Sung by Jyoti Nooran & Sultana Nooran, the song is an intelligent mix of Pritam's music and Haryanvi folk-song, Mera Nau Daandi Ka Baajna. Haryanvi folk and dholak patterns make this song a perfect fit for a wedding in an Indian village. Whatsay!
Verdict: In a nutshell, it's a pleasant surprise by Pritam and Dangal's music fits perfectly to the raw and rustic story of Mahavir, Geeta and Babita.
We give it 75 out of 100 on Pinkvilla meter!
