India's unbeaten run in the World Cup 2019 came to an end as they went down to England by 31 runs. Needing 338 runs to win, the Indian openers started off abysmally and could manage only 27 in the first ten overs.

However, a century stand between Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli took the score to 146, and just when the middle order needed to fire, they displayed a shocking batting performance.

Youngsters Rishabh  Pant and Hardik Pandya tried to keep the run rate within check, but once the duo were sent back, MS Dhoni was just unable to lift his game. He scored 42 from 31 balls and his innings was defined by a lack of intent that was criticized heavily by Sourav Ganguly on air.

In the last seven overs, when the run rate was close to 12, Dhoni along with Kedar Jadhav failed to play any big hits and was hapyy with the singles. It almost seemed that Dhoni had decided that the game was lost, and playing to improve the Net Run rate was the need of the hour. By the end, audible boos could be heard as Dhoni was on strike.

Nasser Hussain on air begged Dhoni to give the target a go, while Ganguly said his innings was "unexplainable."

Twitter too did not spare the former skipper.
