Manish Pandey eager to play for India again; says his focus is on scoring consistent runs
Manish Pandey has played 23 ODIs for the Men in Blue, scoring 440 runs at an average of 36.67. A few middle order players who played in the World Cup are likely to be left out, and Pandey has a good chance of sneaking into the team that will play Windies
Manish Pandey, who recently scored a hundred in 87 balls against West Indies A feels that he is in a good zone in his career, and it seems that everything is falling in place for him. The India A skipper had scored a hundred in the third ODI this week with the help of six fours and five sixes. His knock helped the side post 295 runs on the board, which proved too many for the Windies A team.
Pandey, in an interview to BCCI.tv stated that he is working hard to comeback to the Indian team, and hopes to be selected in the senior squad for the tour of West Indies.
"The one thing I would like to focus on is continue scoring runs and come into the national side again . I think I had a decent IPL and if I can back it up with a good India A performance against West Indies A then it could be very helpful for me. I am not thinking too much it's just that I am focusing on the ongoing tournament," he said.
"I have come here to the India A side. I have led this side for a couple of years now and I think we have always done well, we have always emerged champions and its because of the quality of cricket we play and the routine we follow," he added.
He credited his success in the IPL 2019 for his increased confidence. He admitted that the game where he batted at number 3 for his team Sunrisers Hyderabad against Chennai Super Kings and got a fifty was special.
"That was special. Thereafter, there was no stopping for me and I continued scoring runs," he said. Manish Pandey scored 344 runs in 12 matches in IPL 2019.
India's tour to West Indies starts from August 3, and the selection committee along with Virat Kohli will meet to decide the squad for the tour on Sunday.
