Kumar Sangakkara believes that Virat Kohli will break his unique world record
Sangakkara has pinned his hopes on Virat Kohli to break his four successive World Cup hundreds feat.
Former Sri Lanka wicket-keeper Kumar Sangakkara created a unique world record in the 2015 World Cup when he became the only cricketer in the world to score four successive centuries. The record is likely to last a few years, as replicating that same consistency seems hard to in this day and age.
However, the wicket-keeper stated that Virat Kohli has it in him to break his unique feat. During an interview with ESPNCricinfo, he was asked which player he believes could break his record.
“Quite a few of them but Virat Kohli stands head and shoulders above them,” he said.
The Indian had a poor start to the World Cup against South Africa but has come back striongly with three fifties in as many games. He also became the fastest to score 11,000 ODI runs, and is just a few runs short of breaching 20,000 runs in international cricket. If he gets the feat in India's next game against West Indies, he will only be the third India and 12th overall to achieve this record. Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid are the other Indian batters who have more than 20,000 international runs.
