KS Bharat was very close on earning a Test spot, says Chief Selector MSK Prasad
The selectors picked the squad for the upcoming tour of West Indies on Sunday. Will many youngsters made the cut there were few who were not able to break into the squad. Here we have a look at one such player
The Indian squad for the upcoming tour of West Indies was selected on 21st July 2019. While there were lot of concerns as to who would be selected and who might not, the selectors led by MSK Prasad went with the tried and tested combination. There were many youngsters who made the cut but KS Bharat (a wicket-keeper batsmen from Andhra) missed out narrowly to Rishabh Pant and Wriddhiman Saha in spite of some top notch performances in the domestic circuit.
Addressing the media, Prasad said, "We have taken the India A performances of Manish Pandey, Shreyas Iyer has been phenomenal and so is Navdeep Saini and also in the longer format it was KS Bharat, was very very close to getting selected. We have an unwritten norm, that somebody, the established cricketer, when he gets injured, when he comes back, I think an opportunity should be given to him, so that's how we have given an opportunity to Wriddhiman Saha."
"But I can tell that with the stellar performances that KS Bharat is doing, in India A, last three series he has got three centuries and he picked up about 50 dismissals, which is a fantastic thing and he was very, very close and these are Rishabh, KS and Wriddhiman Saha are three guys we will be looking at Test cricket for some time."
The wicket-keeper from Andhra Pradesh has amassed centuries against Australia A, England Lions and Sri Lanka A, with a high score of 142. He also has a first-class triple hundred to his credit. He will be the one to watch out for in the upcoming days.
