KKR rope in England WC-winning coach Trevor Bayliss and New Zealand's Brendon McCullum as mentor for IPL 2020
Both McCullum and Bayliss had been associated with KKR in the past. While the Kiwi batsman made his IPL debut with the franchise, Bayliss was at the helm when the side won the titles in 2012 and 2014.
IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders have roped in Trevor Bayliss as their head coach for the next season of the league. Bayliss was the coach of the England team that won the 50-over World Cup on Sunday. He had earlier stated that he would not extend his England coaching contract, even if the side went on to win the title.
Along with Bayliss, New Zealand former skipper Brendon McCullum comes on board as the batting coach and mentor. The duo replaced Jacques Kallis and Simon Katich, who had been released by KKR earlier this week.
Bayliss had earlier worked with KKR in 2012 and 2014, the two years in which the side won the IPL. The 56-year old has an impressive resume as coach, which include leading Sri Lanka to the finals of the World Cup in 2011, coaching Sydney Sixers - the Big Bash League, and helping England to their first World Cup title, besides guiding KKR to the two trophies earlier.
McCullum, who is now a commentator, too was associated with KKR in the past - as a player. He made his IPL debut with the team back in 2008, and smashed an unbeaten 158 in the first game against RCB.
The duo will join the KKR set-up in the first week of October.
