EXCLUSIVE: ‘Shahid Kapoor’s wedding outfit will see lots of color blocks & festive colors’ – Kunal Rawal

With just a week left for B-town’s one of the most eligible bachelor Shahid Kapoor’s wedding bells to ring, we caught up with Sasha’s designer friend Kunal Rawal to know the details of our groom’s wedding outfit. In a quick chat, Kunal, who is working relentlessly for Shahid’s d-day despite being sick, reveals to us about what he has in store for the groom to be. He assures us that though it is a hectic time for him currently, it has been an extremely fun and exciting process!

There are reports you have designed a colorful bandhgala achkan for Shahid.

Well what we have done for Shahid is that we have made a festive wardrobe for him which includes bandhgala, achkans, sherwanis, kurta churidar-bandis and also some western wear. The detail on the wedding have been changing constantly, we have a complete wardrobe ready for him. And his wedding outfit, I can’t confirm on that because I am yet to sit on it with Shahid. But it could be any of it.

Are you trying anything new on wedding outfit?

The thing with Shahid is that we have been working with each other for a while so we have been talking about his wedding outfit in bits and pieces. But after the things got locked up, is when we sat down and got into details of it. Whenever we work together we like to keep one element in the outfit fresh and something that has not been done before. That is something which holds true for his festive wear also. Whether it’s the fabrics I use on him or the kind of surface texturing and embroideries or even something as simple as the cut being different, we always try to keep things fresh. He also looks great in classics and it is his wedding so it would be something that will be classic with a twist.

Shahid and Mira are said to have coordinated outfits. Are you in touch with Anamika Khanna too?

Well, I am aware of Mira’s color story and things like that, but Mira’s complete wardrobe is being taken care of by Anamika Khanna. I love her work myself and I am really excited to see what she ends up doing for Mira and I am very excited to see both of them together and also selfishly excited to see their costumes together.

Since you said you are aware of the color story, could you tell us what the color scheme is for Sasha’s D-day?

Though the colors for the wedding have been locked, I don’t know if I am in a position to kind of talk about it right now. We have kept festive colors keeping the mood around right now. You will see lot of festive colors, tonal and color blocks and a happy color scheme.

How true are the reports that you are also designing for Pankaj Kapoor?

I am not designing anything for Pankaj Kapoor as of yet. But I am doing some stuff for the family but that is again something I cannot talk about right now.

Is Shahid fussy about his outfits?

Shahid and I have been working together for a while. In fact, we have met through work and have become friends through the process and hence it makes the designing thing much easier. And also another thing is that I enjoy doing wedding wear because it is very personal way of working. Groom’s outfit on his wedding day is very important because it is his day and doing that with somebody close is something that I enjoy. We have been meeting over different shoots, films, events. In bits and pieces we have been doing it and we actually sat only after the dates got finalized.

What will Shahid sport at his wedding reception to be held in Mumbai?

I think that should also come into the wardrobe that we have done for him. It has lot of Indian ethnic festive pieces, fusion wears and a few western pieces too. I don’t think I am the right person to talk about the events and confirm things, but we are prepared for all functions and ceremonies.

Lastly, what have you decided to gift Shahid?

This is a tricky question. I haven’t thought of it yet. It is going to be something which he remembers and will keep and cherish years later too.
