This is your third Bollywood film, so how has your journey been till now?
Mera journey bahot accha raha hai ji aur bahot maza aa raha hai ji (My journey has been good and I am enjoying it a lot)."
Your first film Udta Punjab was a multi-starrer and so is Welcome to New York now, so is it pressure or fun being in a multi-starrer?
Very much fun. Jab bade kalakaar hote hai film mein toh jimmedari aapki kam ho jaati hai bade kalaakaron ke beech mein. Toh itne bade bade kalakaar hai isme toh bada maza aya. Aur jab itne bade kalakaar hote hai toh naye kalakaar maze mein kaam karte hai kyunki jo bade kalakaar hai wo toh sambhaal hi rahe hai sab kuch (It's very much fun. When there are big celebrities then your responsibility is less among them. There are so many big celebs in the film, so it was fun. And when there are such huge celebs, new people have fun working with them as they take care of everything).
How different is Welcome To New York from your previous Bollywood films?
Very different kyunki ek event pe based hai, IIFA pe based hai aur aisi film maine pehli kabhi koi ki nahi thi jahan IIFA bhi ho raha tha aur saath saath mein shoot bhi chal raha tha. Toh mere liye bilkul naya tha experience ke kaise karenge yeh log shoot. So main IIFA pe perform bhi kar raha tha saath mein film bhi shoot ho rahi thi. I had no clue kya ho raha tha lekin inhone kaise banayi picture mujhe kuch idea nahi aur main mubaarak baat deta hoon ke aise maahol mein picture ban kaise gayi. Mujhe toh nahi lagta tha ke aisi picture ban sakti hai (This film is very different as it is based on an event, on IIFA and I have never worked in a film like this before where the award function and the shooting for film was taking place simultaneously. This was a new experience for me that how they will shoot. I was performing for IIFA as well as shooting. I had no clue what was going on but they made the film and I want to appreciate them for making the film. I don't think a film like this can be made).
In Udta Punjab, you played a no-nonsense cop, in Phillauri you played a lover and in Welcome to New York, as we saw in the trailer, you are playing a funny character. What do you have to say about doing different kinds of roles?
Naye naye experiments karte rehta hoon main. Yeh bhi ussi experience mein se ek hai. Abhi aisa decide hua toh nahi ke main kaisa kalaakar hoon aur mujhe kaisi filmein karni chahiye. Toh jab tak nahi decide hota tab tak maze le leta hoon. Jab decide ho jayega tab decided wale role karunga. (I keep doing new experiments. This is also an experience. It's not yet decided what kind of artist I am and what kind of film I am supposed to do. So, I'll enjoy until it's decided).
Tell us about your character in Welcome To New York?
Mera character struggler artist hai jaise main hoon. Par main utna loud nahi hoon (My character is a struggling artist just like me. But I am not that loud).
How was your experience of working with Karan Johar and Sonakshi Sinha in Welcome To New York?
Bada accha experience tha ji. Bade acche hai Sonakshi ji aur bade acche hai Karan. Bada maza aaya (It was a nice experience. Sonakshi and Karan are very nice. It was fun).
Do you wish to work in a movie directed by Karan Johar?
Main har uss shaks ke saath kaam karna chahunga jo mere saath mere saath kaam karna chahta hai. Toh aise maine desire kabhi nahi rakhi ke main uss bande ke saath kaam karna chahta hoon. Jo bhi shaqs mere saath kaam karna chahta hai main uske saath kaam karna chahunga. (I am ready to work with anyone who wants to work with me. I never desired to work with anyone in particular. Anyone who would like to work with me, I will work with that person).
You've sung for your previous Hindi films, do we get to hear your sweet voice in Welcome to New York?
Nahi ji isme maine nahi gaana gaaya. ek aur film aa rahi hai meri Soorma, usme maine ek gaana gaaya hai (No, I haven't sung for this film. I have sung a song for my another film Soorma).
Is Salman Khan there in Welcome To New York?
Salman hai film mein. Unka part bhi hai film mein (Salman is there in the film, his part is also there).
What kind of roles do you look forward to doing in future in Bollywood films and whom do you want to work with?
Jo mil jaaye wo kar lunga ji. Aisa koi plan nahi hai. Meri wishlist nahi hai. (I will work on what I get. I don't have a plan, I don't have any wishlist).
