When Raees' Udi Udi Jaye was unveiled, people could not stop humming to the song and it stayed in our heads for a long time. The whole credit goes to beautiful picturization between the leads Shah Rukh Khan-Mahira Khan and a melodious voice of Sukhwinder Singh and Bhoomi Trivedi.

After crooning for SRK in Happy New Year, this is Sukhi Ji's eighth song for the superstar. In an interaction with PINKVILLA, the talented singer talked about his collaboration with King Khan, his songs in Rangoon and amazing work rapport with director Vishal Bhardwaj.

Your latest release Udi Udi Jaye from Raees has become an instant hit among the masses. What do you have to say about it?

When I was recording the song, I told the music director Ram Sampath straight away that this is one of the best songs I have got. I go for a morning walk every day and two days back I met a guy at the signal who told me to sing this song and I did it instantly. I shared this incident with all my music directors. There is another fun in maintaining simplicity. It is a very clean, dancing romantic number and melodious too. If anyone else would have sung this song and that too nicely I would have said the same thing. It is a very beautiful song.

You last sang for SRK in Happy New Year. So how does it feel to do a playback singing for him again?

People feel it's luck and destiny that I get to sing for SRK again and again. But, I sing for everyone including Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn, Shahid Kapoor and many more. There is some luck brand when it comes to SRK, my career also kickstarted when I sang for him - Chaiyya Chaiyya (Dil Se). Moreover, there is a different aura in Shah Rukh. When people appreciating my songs, I feel that it is my earning. Now, even Gujarati people are behind me to perform to the song Udi Udi Jaye on stage.

And now your song from Rangoon is set to be released soon. Tell us something about this track.

The songs from Rangoon are fantastic and people will love it. The surprising fact is that they have picturised the songs in an unusual way. There is a Chaiyya Chaiyya deja vu moment after 16 years as there is a track shot on the train in the film. It's mind-blowing and the title track has also got tremendous energy. After hearing these songs for so many days, I was still stunned. The song has an amazing orchestration and I have never seen it anywhere else before. I have given the name to this track and it's "Action Song". It is very commendable of Vishal Bhardwaj and he should get worldwide recognition for this song even in Hollywood. The song will remind you of sequences from Gladiator and 300 series. Between Raees and Rangoon, one more song was released in between from Jolly LLB 2 and people applauded the song calling it sweet. Even Ram Sampath appreciated me. People complimenting me makes me happy as ever, this is my achievement and I am here only for this. I am not a money-oriented person but a music-oriented one.

You collaborate with Vishal Bhardwaj in every film of his. Do you get an idea that you will be part of his film once it's announced?

No no, I never think like that. This will make me arrogant and I will start thinking that Vishal ji has started a new film and I will definitely sing for it. I have to think one thing which is very important, I have to create energy and passion to my music every day. And whenever I get an opportunity, I should deliver the best and it has to be very natural. This is Vishal Ji's decision to sign me. Whenever I go to him for recording, his love and approach shows how creative he is and even compliments me well. It is a happy moment for me that I keep on getting a chance to sing for him.

Now there's a trend of recreating songs again. Are there any songs you wish to revamp?

I am dying to recreate R D Burman songs. If any music composer gives me an opportunity to recreate Pancham Da songs, I will definitely do it and the magic of it will surely be new.  Not just him, I also like melodies of Laxmikant-Pyarelal. If someone else is doing it, I want that person to credit R D Burman well. If someone keeps on doing it, it will show that we have nothing new to offer. Coming to recreating my songs, I don't think anyone has approached me for it. I came 16 years ago and the youth still enjoys my tracks like Chaiyya Chaiyya and Ramta Jogi. I don't think my songs will be recreated soon. I love to enjoy walking in the garden of music and want to feel the fragrance of every flower.

You have crooned for almost every Bollywood actor. Who is your favourite among them?

Everyone is my favourite. I am singing for Ranbir Kapoor in Sanjay Dutt's biopic. After singing the track, Rajkumar Hirani even sent me a truck filled with flowers. I can't be partial towards any actor. They equally work hard, be it Ranbir, Ranveer Singh, Ajay, SRK or Salman. I enjoy singing for everyone and that's my passion.

What are your future projects?

I am currently recording for Akshay Kumar's Toilet - Ek Prem Katha and Ranbir Kapoor's Sanjay Dutt biopic.
