I faced a near-to-death incident in my second film Saaya - John Abraham
The macho and handsome, John Abraham is back with the second installment of Force series - Force 2. And this time, Sonakshi Sinha and Tahir Raj Bhasin will join the starcast.
John will carry forward his role of ACP Yashvardhan in the film. In a tête-à-tête with Pinkvilla.com, the actor and film's co-producer opened up about his love for action films and how he once faced a near-to-death experience while performing a stunt!
Excerpts from the chat:
As Akshay Kumar is synonymous with comedy films, action comes across as your favourite genre. Is this a conscious decision to do films like Rocky Handsome, Dishoom and now Force 2?
You know, strangely I love comedy. It's my favourite genre. Talking about Akshay, I had my best times with him. We both have done three films together! But, I love comedy because it makes you happy. As for action, it comes very naturally to me and I enjoy that space.
Recently two Kannada stuntmen lost their lives while shooting for an action sequence (they were not wearing safety gear.) John, have you faced any such situation, remotely close?
I faced a near-to-death incident in my second film Saaya, directed by Anurag Basu. In the climax of the film, I had to jump into the water and I had to pretend to float because as per the script, I have fainted in the water. A guy was supposed to pull me along - my co-star Mr. Raj Zutshi. I was about 10 feet away from the waterfall which had a 100 feet drop. Little did I know, the stuntmen around me have tied our legs with wires and all, but none of them (the stuntmen) knew how to swim! What happened was, when I was floating on the back, I suddenly heard Raj scream that 'I can't swim!' Next, I remember was, he pushed me! When I came back above, I couldn't move because I was pulled from all ends by the wires. It was when I came on the shore, I realized I got a second life.
When these Kannada stuntmen passed away, I felt a little part of me was gone. I realized what must have happened with them as only an action person can relate to such tragedy so deeply. Because when that incident happened with me, I thought I have really lost my life and that too in my second film!
What role does John prefer the most - of a producer or an actor?
It's always the actor for me first, I love that the most. I turned into a producer because I didn't see certain kind films being made. I started getting disappointed by most of the films I saw. So I was like, let's attempt being a producer and make the films I want to see as Vicky Donor, Madras Cafe or Rocky Handsome. So for me, it's an actor first, then producer.
Force 2 is jointly produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, Viacom Motion Pictures and JA Entertainment and is slated for a November 18, 2016 release.
