There have been speculations off-late that Kangana was actively pursuing director Aanand Rai for the lead part in his film with Shah Rukh Khan in which he plays a dwarf. Rumour became more significant in the wake of the news that during Tanu Weds Manu Returns shoot, Kangana and Rai had had a fall out and that now she was trying to woo the director by sending him feelers as she was keen on working with Shah Rukh. Rai, in a way, admits to the differences that happened between the two.
"Agreements and disagreements are part of film-making process. But why would Kangana send me feelers at this stage of her career? Also, we have great equations. And who doesn't want to work with Shah Rukh, Salman, Aamir, Varun Dhawan...I will go on taking names...." He further added, "I’d get a call from Kangana’s side when that article (regarding Kangana sending him feelers) appeared and I told them not to react.”
While there have been many conjectures about the film’s leading lady with names like Kangana, Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif thrown in, Rai exclusively told Pinkvilla while talking about his film, "I don't want a set up feel to my film, I want casting feel. It is a man-woman, woman-man relationship film. It is entertaining and a very different love story. The casting process is still on. Who knew Madhavan-Kangana and Sonam-Dhanush pairing would work so beautifully?"
