EXCLUSIVE: ‘I’m rarely angry and bit of a romantic too’ – Tahir Raj Bhasin

You have seen him playing the baddie who took on Rani Mukerji in ‘Mardaani’. We have hated him so bad! But, we loved him as he convincingly played a conniving Delhi-based kingpin – Karan Rastogi. I am talking about Tahir Raj Bhasin, the 28 year old actor. With his calm face, Tahir is yet again going to make you love him...hate him...in action thriller ‘Force 2’. Tahir speaks to Pinkvilla.com exclusively, about his role, preparations and his fascination for grey characters. Read on:

How did 'Force2' happen?

The film happened after casting director Honey Trehan introduced me to the F-2 team. They had seen my work and thought I was good for the part. Thereafter it was a series of meetings with YRF Talent. I’m quite ecstatic that it all fell into place. It’s a dark edgy crime drama with a very cool story line. Vipul Shah and Abhinay Deo are a power packed combination and I look forward to working with John Abraham and Sonakshi Sinha.

We heard it’s a grey character, if you could please elaborate on your role.

It’s a bit premature to reveal the details about the character. He's interesting and layered with a unique point of view about his world. He's grey but he's fun!

What kind of preparations are you taking for the role?

At the moment I'm in readings with the director understanding how he sees the script and character.

Earlier in an interview you had said you don't like romantic characters. Why so?

Did I?? Good God no! Romance is energising and it makes things so much more interesting. I totally like romantic characters and as an actor it’s equally challenging and powerful to do.

Why this fascination for grey character?

Haha. It’s always interesting exploring something that has dimensions and layers to it. Real life is never black and white why must the movies be? Grey characters don't only mean broody characters. A totally smitten lover boy can be equally grey if written that way.

How different is your role in Force 2 from 'Mardaani'?

Very different and that’s exactly what drew me to the part. Without revealing too much about F-2 the basic difference is how high on adrenalin this storyline and character is.

Recently we saw you in an ad with Kangana and you looked cute...how challenging is it to portray a grey character?

Thanks. Working with Kangana was a blast. She was totally professional and so easy to work with. It’s challenging playing grey characters because there's no right way and you get to make your own rules.

We have seen you angry onscreen, how is Tahir in real life?

Great question! In real life I take nothing too seriously, I’m rarely angry and am a bit of a romantic too.

Have you met your Force 2 co star?

Yes I’ve met John. We've read a bit of the script together. He went out of his way to make me feel at home and is a very modest and large hearted guy.

John is a known fitness freak, how much are you into fitness? Has there been any alteration in your regime after signing the film?

I am a fitness enthusiast and my routine includes MMA and going to the Gym. Yes when you're doing an action project one needs to keep a special check on the diet; the same routine gets much more intensive.
