EXCLUSIVE: ‘I gained around 20 kgs for my debut film, now I am in a happy state’ – Bhumi Pednekar
Bhumi Pednekar just won her first award for her debut film ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ and too on the international stage. Debuting with ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ opposite Ayushmann Khurrana, Bhumi won the Best Actor- Female award at the Indian Film Festival Melbourne. And she spoke exclusively to us regarding her first win.
The winning speech:
It is totally unbelievable. I have butterflies in my stomach. Without Sharat Katariya, this win would have been impossible. When you are applauded for a role, it gives immense satisfaction and I am so happy that Sandhya was accepted without question by audiences across the world. I believe my hard work has paid off in this applause that my character won. To win overseas at a Diaspora centric event, feels even more special! And winning it on this day (Independence Day), everything has become more special.
The first thought that came across her mind when she got to know about her win
Thank you God and thank you mom and dad. The news was so unexpected. I was nervous and remembered every people who were behind this win. Right from Aditya Chopra to Shanoo Sharma, every single person who were behind making Sandhya possible.
Agreeing to the role of a fat character
At first I thought I was casting for the film. But then when the script was given to me, I was totally blown away with it. But everyone was convinced that I could play the part and I was elated to be a part of it.
Agreeing to gain weight
At first it started with 15 kgs, but I ended up adding 20 kgs for the role of Sandhya. Right from the weight gain to weight loss, everything was planned. As a girl, the thought of gaining weight wasn’t easy, but when I thought as an actor, I was very sure. That gave me the confidence and I started training myself to gain weight and then as planned, I lost weight. Now I am very happy in my state and how I look.
