India A wrap up a 4-1 victory against West Indies A; Shubman Gill smashes third consecutive 50 in the series
India A registers victory in the fifth ODI against West Indies A by 8 wickets, claiming a 4-0 series win.
Batting first, the West Indies A team could manage to register 236 runs on board whilst India A chased down the total in 33 overs with 102 balls remaining. Ruturaj Gaikwad misses his century by a run as he lost his wicket to Keemo Paul after scoring a brilliant 99 in 89 deliveries with a strike rate of 111.23.
In form batsman, Shubman Gill smashed his third consecutive half century and scored a brilliant 69 runs in only 40 balls in the fifth ODI. He scored a half century in three out of four games that he played in the series. The 19 year old batsman who made an impressive debut in the Indian Premier League has been extremely consistent and has managed to showcase his brilliant skills in domestic cricket. He bagged the Man of the tournament award in the under-19 World Cup match played in 2018 where he scored 372 runs with an average of 124.
However, despite his consistency and form, he was overlooked from the Indian squad selected for the upcoming West Indies tour. “Shubman Gill went to New Zealand when KL Rahul was suspended for a couple of matches. Now KL Rahul has come back, so Gill is in the waiting list, definitely he will be considered in future,” said MSK Prasad on Shubman Gill’s exclusion from the Indian squad for the West Indies tour. Several youngsters which include the likes of Navdeep Saini, Khaleel Ahmed, Washington Sundar are given a place in the team for the West Indies tour.
