India vs Sri Lanka, ICC Cricket World Cup 2019: Match prediction
India's bowling attack is more balanced, and the Sri Lankan batters could struggle
Team India will play their last league game against Sri Lanka on Saturday, and will be aiming to finish on top of the points table in the World Cup 2019. While they have already qualified for the semis, a win here and a loss for Australia against South Africa will mean that they end on top of the table, thus allowing them to play New Zealand in the semis.
However, their immediate focus on hand will be to get their playing combination right, and to sort out their middle order woes. While Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul to an extent have been the only consistent performers for the Men in Blue, the middle order, comprising Rishabh Pant, Dinesh Karthik and MS Dhoni have been unable to get going. Against Sri Lanka, the middle order will be itching to have a go and find some momentum. However, they will be up against the class of Lasith Malinga.
The Sri Lankans are already out of the World Cup, and have had a poor run in the edition so far. Sans performances from players like Kusal Perera, Malinga and Avishka Fernando, the team has struggled, and they are unlikely to end with a win here.
India, on paper, are more balanced, with their bowling unit enough to tear apart Lanka's inconsistent middle order. Hence, India are the favourites.
