India vs Sri Lanka, ICC Cricket World Cup 2019: Lasith Malinga's battle with Rohit Sharma to watch out for
Rohit Sharma will be expected to fare well against Malinga upfront
Team India will look to end their group stage campaign in the World Cup 2019 on a high when they take on Sri Lanka on Saturday. The Islanders have already crashed out of the edition, while India, currently at number two in the points table, will look to win and then hope that Australia lose to South Africa so they can end as the top team after the league stage.
India, after losing to England on Sunday, won their next game against Bangladesh and will be eager to carry forward the winning moemntum into the semis by winning here. Rohit Sharma, who has been India's mainstay with the bat, scoring four hundreds, will once again be expected to pitch in with a good performance here, and navigate the tough overs that Lasith Malinga will bowl upfront.
The Sri Lankan bowls yorkers that are tough to score off, but Sharma, having played with Malinga in the Mumbai Indians camp, will know how to keep them at bay. He has a good record against Malinga, having faced 162 deliveries in the format, scoring 145 runs off him. However, Malinga has gotten him out twice.
With India's opening woes not yet settled, and with the middle order in inconsistent form, Team India will hope that Sharma can be the anchor once again, and his battle with Malinga, then, will be of utmost importance.
