The arch-rivals, India and Pakistan, are set to clash for the seventh time in World Cup history on Sunday at Manchester in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019. The India-Pakistan match is always considered as one of the most-anticipated cricket contests. People not only from the two countries but from all over the world look forward to seeing these two battle.
Thus far, India has completely dominated in the World Cup as at all the previous six occasions, they have triumphed. However, since cricket is the game of great uncertainties you never know what will happen next. As the stage is set once more for Men in Blue to lock horns with Men in Green, here is a throwback to the last three World Cup matches between the two sides.
World Cup 2015, Adelaide Oval
The last time India played Pakistan in the World Cup was in 2015 at Adelaide Oval. The match ended in a one-sided encounter with India bagging an easy win of 76 runs. Batting first, the MS Dhoni-led side scored a mammoth total of 307 runs, largely due to a fine display of batting by Virat Kohli. The right-handed batsman scored 107 runs while Suresh Raina and Shikhar Dhawan also chipped in with 74 and 73 runs, respectively. In reply, Pakistan lost early wickets and lastly, bundled out on 224 runs. It was Mohammad Shami scalping four wickets with the ball.
World Cup 2011 Semifinal, Mohali
In what was one of the most exciting contests between India and Pakistan in the semifinal of World Cup 2011, the Men in Blue posted a 29-run victory. Batting first, India made par 260 runs amid a spectacular spell of bowling by Wahab Riaz, who scalped a five-wicket-haul. While for MS Dhoni-led side, it was Sachin Tendulkar who shone with the bat, scoring 85 runs.
Pakistan, in reply, again found themselves in trouble due to back-to-back wickets. However, Misbah-ul-Haq undoubtedly came to rescue, scoring a fifty though that was not enough at the end.
World Cup 2003, Centurion
This time, Pakistan batted first and made challenging 273 runs, owing to an unforgettable hundred by Saeed Anwar. Chasing the target, India went off to a flying start with Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag going after Pakistan bowlers straightaway. Though Pakistan pulled off a few wickets, however, Sachin made sure to not let it get away from India. He scored 98 runs while Yuvraj Singh also struck a fiery fifty to India home with 6 wickets in hand.
