India vs Pakistan, ICC World Cup 2019: Shoaib Akhtar expects rain to be a spoilsport in big clash on Sunday
Shoaib Akhtar took on Twitter to express his concern over the rain which might affect the upcoming India-Pakistan match on Sunday.
Former Pakistani fast-bowler, Shoaib Akhtar expects rain to be a spoilsport in the big clash on Sunday between India and Pakistan. Shoaib posted a picture on his Twitter account which has skippers Virat Kohli and Sarfaraz Ahmed swimming towards the pavilion after the toss whilst the cricket experts are seen on a boat. He tweeted as, “Sunday looking a bit like this. Haha #PAKvsIND #CWC19”.
Yuvraj Singh who recently announced his retirement from International cricket retweeted this picture.
While the clash between India and Pakistan is one of the biggest games in cricket, the concern is due to the erratic weather conditions that can be a spoilsport in the match. Previously, rain has affected four games in the tournament so far leading to a huge loss of points to several teams. The latest one being the encounter of the Men in Blue against the Black Caps that was called off due to excess rain without a ball being bowled.
However, International Cricket Council (ICC) Chief Executive, David Richardson said that keeping a reserve day for every game at WC would increase the length of the tournament. It will be extremely complex to deliver. He also expressed his concerns over how there is no guarantee that a reserve day would be free from rain either.
He further added that reserve days would require them to significantly uplift their staffs as over 1,200 people are on site to deliver a match and everything associated with it.
The Men in Blue are the favourites to win the match and carry a solid record in the World Cup tournament against Pakistan. Both the teams will face each other tomorrow at Old Trafford cricket ground.
