The most awaited match of ICC World Cup 2019 between arch-rivals, India and Pakistan, on Sunday, ended in a one-sided affair with Virat Kohli’s men stealing the show. After being invited to bat first in the overcast conditions of Old Trafford, Team India made sure to start the proceedings well.
The openers formed over the 100-run stand to build a solid foundation. The middle-order led by Virat Kohli also contributed, helping India post a big total of 336 runs. Later, bowlers also responded strongly, removing one of Pakistan openers early. Then it was spinners and all-rounder duo of Hardik Pandya and Vijay Shankar who ran through the middle-order to hand Men in Blue an easy win. Here are the highlights of the match
Rohit Sharma’s superb hundred

To post a big total, it was really important to start off well. Rohit Sharma in absence of his regular partner, Shikhar Dhawan, took the charge and played a fine knock to pilot India through. The right-handed batsman scored 140 runs in 113 balls before getting removed by Hasan Ali.
Virat Kohli’s sublime touch with the bat

After Rohit fell, it was now the time for captain Virat Kohli to guide the innings. He did that and did quite well. The modern-day batting great not only struck bad balls out of the boundary but stole those close singles and doubles to lead India to a hefty total. He finished up with a score of 77 runs in 65 balls.
Mohammad Amir’s rememberable spell

While other Pakistan bowlers were going for plenty, spearhead, Mohammad Amir, bowled exceptionally well. He kept bowling tight lines and lengths, not allowing Indian batsmen to open their arms. He first removed dangerous Hardik Pandya, followed with the big wicket of MS Dhoni and lastly, sent back set Virat Kohli to somehow stop the flow of runs. He finished with the figures of 10-1-47-3.
Vijay Shankar’s first ball wicket
When Bhuvneshwar Kumar had to leave field owing to an injury scare in the begining of innings, Indian fans were yet to react as Vijay Shankar made them roar. The medium pacer trapped Pakistan opener, Imam-ul-Haq in between the wickets, providing India an early breakthrough. He later came back into the attack, removing Sarfraz Ahmed as well to make his debut World Cup match a memorable one.
Kuldeep Yadav’s magical spell
After the early wicket, Pakistan made a strong comeback. The duo of Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam formed a big stand of 104 runs, putting the pressure back on Men in Blue. However, the chinaman, Kuldeep Yadav changed the whole scenario. He removed Babar Azam with a peach of a delivery. Not many balls after, he sent back set Fakhar Zaman as well, almost handing the match to India.
Hardik Pandya’s two wickets off two balls
Kuldeep’s stunning spell was followed by Hardik Pandya. The right-arm pacer first made Mohammad Hafeez hit one straight to the fielder while knocked off Shoaib Malik’s stumps in the very next ball, leaving Sarfaraz Ahmed’s men in tatters.
