Mohammed Shami clinched a hattrick as India defaeted Afghanistan in a nail-biter in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Chasing 225 for a win, Afghanistan needed 16 runs in the last over to win for a massive upset. The first ball of the over, bowled by Mohammad Shami, was sent away for a four much to the disappointment of the Indian fans present at the stadium. However, Shami staged a remarkable comeback in the next few balls, picking up 3 wickets in three balls.
He first got the wicket of Mohammad Nabi, who smashed 52 in 55 balls, and then came back to get Aftab Alam and then Mujeeb Ur Rahman to become the first Indian to get a hattrick in a World Cup game since 1987. Overall, he is the fourth Indian to bag a hattrick, after Chetan Sharma, Kapil Dev and Kuldeep Yadav.
