India vs Afghanistan, ICC Cricket World Cup 2019: India restricted to 224 as Virat Kohli top scores
Team India were restricted to less than 225 in their World Cup 2019 clash with Afghanistan
Team India were restricted to only 224 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their World Cup clash with Afghanistan on Saturday. Opting to bat first on a sluggish wicket, the Indian openers struggled to get a move on, as they lost thier first two wickets for 64 runs. Virat Kohli did steady the innings, top-scoring with 67, but once he was dismissed, the Indian batters failed to get a grip of the pitch and were restricted to less than 225.
It is also their lowest total while batting first since April 2015.
Credit, however, should be given where it is due, The Afghan bowlers kept things tight, with spinners Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan picking up 4 wickets among themselves. They also gave away only 97 runs in their 29 overs - Nabi bowled 9 in his spell - which forced the Indian batters into a ditch.
Kedar Jadhav did try his best to take India nearer to 250 as he made 52 in 68 deliveries, but his dismissal meant that the Men in Blue could not cross the 230-run mark.
India are unbeaten in the edition thus far, while Afghanistan are yet to get their first win on the board.
