The World Cup 2019 is turning out to be an emotional event for cricket fans, with legends either playing their last World Cup or retiring from the game. While Shoaib Malik, Mashrafe Mortaza and JP Duminy played their last ODI game during the course of the edition, others like Chris Gayle, MS Dhoni, Lasith Malinga and Faf du Plessis are expected to retire soon.

Imran Tahir, the South Africa spinner, who has won hearts with his tight bowling and his celebrations, where he runs half-way across the ground with outstretched arms after taking a wicket, became the latest member to retire from the format. The game between Australia and South Africa was his last, and fans were able to witness the leg-spinner whip out his trademark celebrations one final time as he sent back Aaron Finch early.

Making his debut in the World Cup in 2011, Tahir featured in 107 ODIs for his country, wherein he picked up 173 wickets at an average of less than 25. In a country where youngsters opt to become fast bowlers, Tahir inspired children into spin bowling, and skipper Faf du Plessis minced no words in admitting that he would be missed.

"He is an absolute champion of a human being. Immy (Tahir) in the last 2-3 years has been exceptional and he has been the heartbeat of the team. It is great to send him with a win."

This is how Twitteratis paid him their tributes.
