ICC World Cup 2019: Rohit Sharma smashes his fifth century in the tournament; Twitter Reacts

Both Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma have smashed six centuries in World Cup, however, Rohit reached this milestone in lesser games than the Indian stalwart. The Indian Vice-Captain has also surpassed Kumar Sangakkara’s record of the highest number of centuries in a single World Cup tournament. Sangakkara smashed four tons in 2015 whereas, this Indian opener smashed his fifth ton against Sri Lanka, today at Leeds.

The Indian opener has been the team’s most reliable and consistent batsman in the entire tournament and has risen up in pressure situations to claim victory for the Men in Blue. He scored a brilliant century against the Lankans and smashed 103 runs off 94 deliveries, before losing his wicket to Kasun Rajitha.

This is also Rohit’s third consecutive century in the tournament; he played an exceptional innings of 102 against England and 104 against Bangladesh. With this century, the Indian opener has also reclaimed his position as the highest run-scorer in the tournament so far, surpassing Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan.

Sri Lankan cricket team who won the toss and elected to bat first registered a total of 264/7 at the end of 50 overs at Leeds.
