ICC World Cup 2019: Rohit Sharma says MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav tried hard to hit against the English bowlers
Indian Vice-Captain, Rohit Sharma smashed a brilliant century against the hosts despite team’s defeat.
The Men in Blue who remained unbeaten in the tournament were defeated by the hosts by 31 runs at Edgbaston cricket ground last Sunday. Despite Rohit Sharma’s century and Virat Kohli’s half century in the clash, the team failed to chase their target of 338 runs.
India’s Vice-Captain and opening batsman, Rohit Sharma told the media post the team’s defeat that England played better cricket than India throughout the match. While batting, England had three partnership and India managed to have just one big partnership.
He also added that England mixed the short ball and slower ball which forced the Indian players to hit the longer boundaries and that will be a lesson for them in the next match.
Rohit mentioned that MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav, who were criticised for their lack of positive intent in the game, tried to hit the ball but they were not able to because of the slowness of the pitch.
The Men in Blue struggled hard with their batting and had a slow start in the match which included KL Rahul’s early wicket. England on the other hand, made the Indian bowlers struggle for their first breakthrough and built a 150 plus partnership in the start. Rohit Sharma also admitted that the English bowlers bowled pretty well in the first 10 overs. “Losing an early wicket always puts you under pressure, and we lost KL right at the start,” Rohit added.
It was a must win clash for the hosts to stay alive in the race of semi-finals. However, for the Indian cricket team, they need to win one of their two remaining matches in order to qualify for the semi-finals. The team will play its next match against Bangladesh tomorrow on July 2 at Edgbaston cricket ground.
