New Zealand, Australia, India and England, these four teams definitely have an edge over the remaining ones in race to the semis. However, the tournament, itself is unpredictable and we saw a close encounter between the Men in Blue and the Afghans on Saturday. Before that, England lost to Sri Lanka, sliding down fourth in the points table.

Currently, New Zealand ranks 1st in the table and have won all the matches played so far in the tournament. One of their games was called off due to rain. Australia, on the other hand have lost one match and ranks second in the table with India being third who have won all their matches as well. The hosts have had quite an unpredictable tournament so far, they lost against the Men in Green and then against the Lankans.

There are still few games left before the teams enter the semi-finals and so the teams in the latter half of the table cannot be taken for granted.

Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Pakistan have won two games each and ranks 5th,6th and 7th respectively in the table. West Indies and South Africa; have won only a single match in the tournament so far and ranks 8th and 9th respectively in the points table. Afghanistan is the only team in the tournament to have not won a single match so far. They have played six games and lost all of them which made them out of the contender lists of the semis.

The teams will play their first semi-finals on 9th July at Old Trafford cricket ground. Here is how the icc world cup 2019 point table currently stands:
