ICC World Cup 2019: New Zealand not focusing on South Africa’s knockout from the tournament, says Trent Boult
New Zealand has won all the matches played in the tournament so far, whereas South Africa is still struggling to make an impact.
South Africa has won just one match in the tournament so far, and today’s match against the Black Caps is a must win for the Proteas to stay in the tournament. When asked about virtually eliminating the team, fast bowler Trent Boult said that they are just focused on their own game as a team.
“It is not driving us in any respect,” said Boult when asked about knocking Faf du Plessis’ South African team out of the tournament.
The bowler further added that it is a chance for them to go out there and perform and to test their game against quality players in foreign conditions on a big stage.
He added that there have always been exciting games between New Zealand and South Africa over the past few World Cups. He recalled the semi-finals at Eaton Park back in 2015 where New Zealand won by four wickets as one of the greatest games that the Kiwis have ever played.
New Zealand has been performing well in all the three departments in the matches they played so far in the tournament. They are yet to lose an encounter and are in a positive mindset.
Trent also mentioned his concern over the fact that they have got 30 wickets. He said that they have managed to put the ball where they wanted and build pressure on the opposition. “If we continue to do it as a unit and obviously give us some lower totals to chase, then I’ll be happy,” Trent added.
