ICC World Cup 2019: Lasith Malinga heaps praise on Jasprit Bumrah ahead of the final group fixture
Lasith Malinga has heaped praise on India's strike bowler and his Mumbai Indians teammate Jasprit Bumrah. He has also pointed out on some areas that Bumrah has to improve so that he can be even more dangerous
Sri Lankan veteran Lasith Malinga has heaped praise on Jasprit Bumrah, his Mumbai Indians teammate and has seen his growth as a cricketer from close quarters. Under him, Bumrah has mastered the art of bowling yorkers and slower balls on a consistent basis. His guidance has paid rich dividends and has enabled him to quickly emerge as one of the top bowlers for India in all three formats of the game.
He said, " When I met 'boom' for the first time in 2013, he was a young kid. He had pace, but the only thing lacking was accuracy. But he was always willing to learn and was extremely committed to the game. He soon realized that in T20s, only skilful players can survive. He learned everything quickly - be it the slower ball, in-swinger or out-swinger. He has that confidence and that's why he is No.1 now."
Malinga has also pointed out an area that Bumrah needs to improve upon so that he can become unstoppable. " I don't think he has any pressure. That's why he can deliver six yorkers and one slow ball at ease. I hope in the next one year he improves on how to analyze a game. Then, nobody can beat him. Trust me on that."
Jasprit Bumrah is currently the number one bowler in One-Day Internationals and has played an important role in helping India to secure a spot in the knockouts. Till date, he has represented India in 56 ODIs and has picked up 99 wickets at an average of 22 and a staggering economy rate of 4.52. He is expected to play a major part in the upcoming games and help India lift the ICC World Cup trophy for the third time after 1983 and 2011.
Up next, Team India will take on Sri Lanka in the 44th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 at Headingley, Leeds on Saturday.
