Former South African cricketer, Jonty Rhodes believes that the last 12 months have not been pretty well for the team with regards to their domestic and international cricket and the team have also been unable to find their best eleven. In an interview with PTI, Rhodes said that when he was asked a month ago to start this campaign, the only thing that was going in their favour was that no one was expecting much from them.

South Africa have had a miserable World Cup campaign and won just two matches so far in the tournament. “When you go to a World Cup, and you have still not finalised your eleven, I think you are in trouble.” Jonty added.

Jonty Rhodes who is known for his exceptional fielding believes that it is important to convert your 40s and 60s into a hundred which the team failed to do. He also added that the team didn’t really have a plan A and Plan B.

The absence of AB de Villiers in the team has caused a huge blow to the South African cricket team. However, when asked about him wanting to play the World Cup, Rhodes said that even though you can’t replace ABD in your side, it was not possible to accept him back at the last minute. He has been retired for a year, so you can’t have him back in the team.

However, Jonty praised the 2011 World Cup champions, Indian cricket team and said that their fitness and agility that comes from their captain makes all the difference. “Dhoni was instrumental in turning that around as a powerful player himself and now you have Virat Kohli setting the standards himself and insisting everyone to be a part of it.” Jonty added.
