ICC World Cup 2019: Bhuvneshwar Kumar ruled out of the tournament for few games post injury, says Virat Kohli
Bhuvneshwar Kumar who suffered from a hamstring injury during the India-Pakistan match is said to be ruled out of the tournament for a couple of games.
The Indian team received a huge blow on Sunday as their prominent bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar injured himself in the midst of the big clash. The Indian bowler bowled just 2.4 overs before being forced to leave the field before the hamstring injury. He was replaced by Vijay Shankar who claimed a wicket at the next delivery by dismissing Imam-Ul-Haq.
When asked about his injury, skipper Virat Kohli confirmed that Bhuvi might be out for a couple of games before his recovery. He said, “He has a slight niggle. He’s out for two, maybe three games, but he should come back for us at some stage during this tournament. He is very important to us.”
However, the Indian skipper assured that it’s just a niggle and shouldn’t be too bad. In his absence, Virat confirmed that Mohammad Shami will take on the charge and the team is not too worried as far as their bowling department is concerned.
"He himself feels that the niggle is not too bad. Just time (resting) will heal it. He is going to be a very important factor for us so he hopefully he can recover well in time. We have got Shami ready and raring to go so we are not too worried about where the situation stands." Virat added.
The Men in Blue had already lost their opener, Shikhar Dhawan for a few games post his thumb injury and will have to play the next few without Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The Indian team will hope for the injuries to stay away from the team in the rest of the tournament. India will play its next match against Afghanistan on Saturday, June 22.
