ICC World Cup 2019: ‘Babar Azam has got Virat Kohli’s hunger’ says Pakistan’s batting coach Grant Flower
Babar Azam smashed a brilliant century against the Black Caps helping the team register a 6 wickets victory at Edgbaston cricket ground.
Babar Azam’s explosive batting helped the Men in Green to keep their hopes of semi-finals alive in the tournament. He played a spectacular innings of 101 not out off 127 deliveries under pressure. Pakistan’s batting coach, Grant Flower praised the 24-year-old batsman and said that he has the hunger of Virat Kohli.
Flower also believes that this Pakistani cricketer is extremely special and is going to be one of the best batsmen that Pakistan has ever produced. He is hungry for runs and is fit and young. He also thinks that Babar will have a really good career ahead if he keeps his feet on ground, which he has. “He’s got Virat Kohli’s hunger. I think he could beat him at some point in the future,” said Flower when asked about the comparisons with the Indian stalwart.
Flower also revealed that Babar was suffering from flu from the past couple of days and he had not seen him hit any balls the day before the game. He also stated that it was his best century in terms of confidence on field. “I’ve seen him get quite a few hundreds on pretty flat wickets, but this was a tough wicket," he added. He also mentioned that there was a lot of pressure in that match because of the context of the tournament and it was an exceptional batting set-up by the young cricketer.
Pakistan will play it’s next game against the Afghans on Saturday, June 29 at Headingley Carnegie stadium, Leeds.
