This is how much England pocketed after their stunning World Cup 2019 final win over New Zealand
The total prize money for the Cricket World Cup 2019 was $10 million. While that figure might seem staggering, it fails in comparison to the prize money of the Football World Cup, which was $400 million last year.
The World Cup 2019 ended in spectacular fashion as England edged out New Zealand in a stunning final. After the match was tied, the game went into the Super Over. Both teams made 15 runs in the Super Over as well, but the hosts won just because they had smashed more boundaries in their game. England not only won their first World Cup title, but also pocketed $4 million (approximately Rs. 27.5 crores) - the highest ever prize money that has been awarded to the cricket champions.
The Kiwis, on the other hand, walked away with $2million, while India and Australia, the semi-finalists each walked away richer by $800,000 each.
The total prize money for the competition was $10million, which amounts to Rs. 69.6 crore.
However, while the amount might seem staggering, it fails in comparison to the amount the winners of Wimbledon or the FIFA World Cup get. The Wimbledon, which was going on simultaneously with the World Cup had a prize money of $49 million or Rs. 341 crore, with the winner of the men's singles and women's singles taking home $3.14 million each.
The FIFA champions, however, pocket the most. The prize money on offer for the Football World Cup last year was a whopping $400million or Rs. 2786 crore, with the winner alone taking home $38million.
