Disney's Aladdin starring Will Smith in the genie make-over, hit the theatres today. The film also features Mena Massoud as Aladdin and Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmine, Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, Navid Negahban as the Sultan, Nasim Pedrad as Dalia, Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders and Numan Acar as Hakim. Directed by Guy Ritchie, the first glimpse of Will Smith's look as the blue Genie had left everyone in splits. While talking to Variety, he shared how he felt about playing his character.

Will Smith said, "The music was really how I saw my way in to be able to play the Genie. That first day messing around with Friend Like Me, I noticed that it was in the BPM range of old-school hip-hop. So when I started playing with it, it was like, 'Oh man this really lends itself to a tempo and a flavour that I really understand'. He further added, "And that showed me how I could pay homage to Robin and not change the songs so much, so people would have the nostalgic value, but then also be able to come with my own flavour."

Many Disney fans were unhappy about Will's role in the movie and wanted someone else to play the genie. However, Will was really confident and felt that this is something different from others. The actor was also seen making a special appearance in a song of the Bollywood film Student of the Year 2. It was one of the wishes from his bucket list to fulfill in India.
