Tom Cruise's Deepfake TikTok videos go viral; Shockingly real looking videos leave fans, netizens worried
In the worrying deepfake videos that have gone viral, a very real looking Tom Cruise can be seen pulling off magic tricks and even golfing.
Tom Cruise is not on TikTok! If you have come across any videos of the actor pulling off magic tricks on golfing on social media, then let us burst the bubble and tell you that the actor has not joined the video platform. Turns out, Chris Une, a video visual effects specialist from Belgium, created a TikTok account by the handle name @deeptomcruise and has been sharing videos which feature a Tom Cruise lookalike. Using deepfake technology, Une has managed to create real looking videos which resemble the Mission Impossible star Tom Cruise.
In the videos, he can be seen pulling off magic tricks and even golfing. From long shots to even close-ups, the deepfake videos will leave you confused and mistaken for the real Tom Cruise. Several fans of the actor took to social media to voice their concerns over the deepfake videos.
"Deepfakes are genuinely one of the most worrying things to come out of 2020. Technology is fast improving and we need laws and legislation to keep up and even preempt it in order to prevent exploitation and that buzzword that is "fake news" #deepfake #tomcruise." tweeted one netizen.
Another wrote, "This is disturbing. We have enough trouble recognising written & spoken lies #TomCruise." While experts can easily call out deepfake videos, it is easy to trick the general public as these videos look real with some even getting the personality's voice genuinely correct.
