Tom Cruise says Top Gun: Maverick is a love letter to Aviation

Tom Cruise shocked the entire Hall H crowd at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 when he appeared on stage and unveiled the first look at his next film, Top Gun: Maverick. The Joseph Kosinski directorial is the sequel to the 1986 cult film, Top Gun, in which Tom played the role of the flamboyant fighter pilot with the need for speed, Maverick. The sequel takes place 34 years after the events of the original film and will see Maverick turn mentor for his late flight partner and best friend Goose's son Bradley (played by Miles Teller).

Besides appearing at Hall H, Cruise also had an interview with Conan O'Brien for his Conan-Con and spoke fondly about Top Gun: Maverick. The Oscar-nominated actor revealed that the flying stunts inside the F-16's were actually performed by himself and the cast. Tom also revealed that his affiliation with flying has lasted for a very long time and that his film is like a love letter to Aviation. "The aerial footage is really beautiful," Tom teased about the highly-awaited film.

Meanwhile, Conan also tried to grill Cruise on whether the cult track associated with Top Gun, Danger Zone by Kenny Loggins, will be reprised in Top Gun: Maverick. In response, Tom quipped that he could tell O'Brien what happens in the movie but then he would have to kill him. 

Also starring Val Kilmer, Jon Hamm and Jennifer Connelly, Top Gun: Maverick is slated to release on June 26, 2020.
