Maleficent: Mistress of Evil is the sequel of Maleficent (2014). It is loosely inspired by Charles Perrault's original fairy tale and Walt Disney's 1959 animated film Sleeping Beauty; the film portrays the story from the perspective of the antagonist, depicting her conflicted relationship with the princess and the king of a corrupt kingdom. The Sleeping Beauty is a classic fairy tale about a princess who is cursed to sleep for a hundred years by an evil fairy, where she would be awakened by a handsome prince. When the good fairy hears this, she knew that the princess would be frightened if she found herself alone when she wakes up, so the fairy uses her wand to put every living person and animal in the palace to sleep until the princess awakens.
Maleficent is a powerful fairy and is the main character of Disney's Maleficent. She is the sworn protector of the Moors and ruthlessly guards her land from human invaders. One day, however, she suffers a ruthless betrayal that turns her pure heart to stone. Hungry for revenge, Maleficent cruelly places an irrevocable curse upon King Stefan's newborn daughter, Princess Aurora only to later realise that the child may be the only one who can restore peace, forcing her to take drastic actions that will change both the worlds forever. Angelina Jolie portrayed the role of Maleficent in the movie titled Maleficent and now will be seen in the sequel, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.
