Suicide Squad: James Gunn REVEALS sequel's stellar cast; warns fans not to get too attached

The highly anticipated Suicide Squad sequel's cast has been announced by director James Gunn and fans obviously cannot keep calm. Taking to social media, the famed director shared a picture with names of the entire 24-member cast that includes actors Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag) and Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang) who will reprise their roles. However, Will Smith will not be returning to play Deadshot. Joining the earlier cast for the first time are Taika Waititi, Peter Capaldi, Idris Elba, John Cena, Storm Reid, Pete Davidson, David Dastmalchian and Daniela Melchior.
With the announcement, also came James Gunn's warning. The director warned die-hard Suicide Squad fans to not get too attached. He captioned the announcement, "Don’t get too attached. #TheSuicideSquad”. While the characters of the new cast is yet to be revealed, it was earlier reported that Idris Elba may be playing Deadshot. However, Elba has been signed on for a new character and Storm Reid will be his daughter, Variety reported.

The Suicide Squad sequel's team is slated to begin filming this month in Atlanta and will hit the theatres in August 2021. The sequel will take ahead the story from the 2016 film which was based on DC comic's team of villains. Replying to a fan's query on Twitter earlier, James Gunn had said, "It’s been an unbelievably rewarding experience so far, and a real dream come true for me. I’m hoping to release some news VERY SOON."
