Sorry Marvel fans, Sony says the 'door is closed' on Tom Holland's Spider Man return to MCU
If you've been hoping for some good news from Sony or Disney regarding Spider-Man's return to MCU, we are sorry to burst your bubble. Sony Pictures head has ended all speculations of Tom Holland's Peter Parker returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
It has been an unfortunate few weeks for Marvel fans. The news of Spider-Man leaving the Marvel Cinematic Universe following Sony and Disney's deal falling apart left fans heartbroken. Fans took to D23 and mourned Spideys exit from the MCU. However, all hope was not lost for there were rumours suggesting that Disney and Sony could give their relationship another shot. Amidst reports doing the rounds suggesting that there are possibilities that Sony and Disney could renegotiate a deal, Sony Pictures chairman and CEO Tony Vinciquerra as put a stop to all these speculations and revealed that the door for Spider-Man's return to MCU is closed.
However, there is a silver lining. Speaking at Variety‘s Entertainment & Technology summit, Vinciquerra addressed the deal to reaffirm that Peter Parker is not going back to MCU. But he did hint that it is only for the moment. "For the moment the door is closed," he said, before he added, "it’s a long life." Vinciquerra assured that there was no bad blood between the two production houses.
Vinciquerra noted that Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige was being “stretched incredibly thin” with newer additions to MCU was one of the barriers between their talks.“We had a great run with (Feige) on Spider-Man movies,” the Sony chief said. “We tried to see if there’s a way to work it out….the Marvel people are terrific people, we have great respect for them, but on the other hand we have some pretty terrific people of our own. Kevin didn’t do all the work," he said.

"Spider-Man was fine before the event movies, did better with the event movies, and now that we have our own universe, he will play off the other characters as well. I think we’re pretty capable of doing what we have to do here," Vinciquerra added. Tom Holland had previously assured fans that he would continue to play Spider-Man. The actor is set to reprise the role of the superhero in Spider-Man 3. Are you disappointed that Spider-Man will not be a part of MCU Phase 4?
