Dark Phoenix is the sequel to X-Men: Apocalypse and the seventh installment in the X-Men film series. It is also the first in the X-Men franchise to have a woman as the main character.
The upcoming movie from the X-Men franchise, Dark Phoenix, has created all the right noise on social media with its trailer and has sent fans into a frenzy. Starring Game of Thrones' Sophie Turner in the lead role, Dark Phoenix will showcase the struggles faced by Turner aka Jean Grey after having acquired certain powers post an accident in space. The film will be the first in the X-Men franchise to have a woman as the main character.
Sophie Turner will be seen alongside Jessica Chastain who plays a shapeshifter who manipulates the Phoenix. The two stars recently opened up about playing prominent, strong female roles. Sophie revealed that as a kid she never came across any superhero movies which had strong female characters.
Sophie told E!News, "Growing up, I didn't really feel like...I'd seen a superhero movie with a really strong female at the helm. Now, it's so great that young girls and young boys and your daughter can grow up and watch this movie and look at it and say, 'Oh wow, what a strong, well-rounded, accurate representation of a woman."
When she loses control, bad things happen. #DarkPhoenix in theaters June 7
Chastain chimed in and said, "It'll be nice, when we get to the point too when we make these films, that we don't have to say, 'It's great to see a strong female character, well, it's just normal'." Well, we agree that female superheroes need to be the new normal.
