Priyanka Chopra REVEALS why 'Jonas' was added to her surname: I wanted to honour my parents’ tradition
In a recent interview, Priyanka Chopra shared her honest reaction to seeing her name as Priyanka Chopra Jonas in her new memoir, Unfinished, for the very first time.
Priyanka Chopra is definitely on cloud nine as her new memoir Unfinished drops today, i.e. February 9. In the highly-awaited memoir, PeeCee has been credited as Priyanka Chopra Jonas and during a recent appearance on Barstool Sports’ Chicks In The Office podcast, the 38-year-old actress shared her honest reaction to seeing the surname addition for the very first time on print.
"The first time I saw it, I was like, 'Oh, oh ok, that’s my name now,'" Chopra recalled while clarifying that she hasn't changed her name and rather just added on to it. As for why she added Jonas to her surname, Priyanka confessed via Just Jared that she wanted to honour traditions while also not wanting to let go of her identity. It was more of an "in-between" for her. "I inherited a beautiful name and I hope to live up to its legacy," The White Tiger star stated.
The addition in the surname is one such aspect that PeeCee grew up with but a part of her hopes that fifty years later, the conversation in the world changes where girls don't think about being raised or think about that aspect. While Priyanka was never forced into it, it's just something she wanted to do because that's how she grew up.
"And we have to like maybe hopefully in another 50 years, it’ll be guys taking our names too, or just not changing our names, you know, and that’ll be normalised. But I don’t think I was at that place when I got married, I kind of wanted to honour my parents’ tradition and that’s just how it happened," Chopra added.
On a concluding note, Priyanka reiterated that her identity has been hers for so many years that there was no way her last name would have been lost.
